55016 (D9016) "GORDON HIGHLANDER" awaits her fate at Doncaster Works on the 31st July 1982 with sister locomotive 55005 (D9005) "THE PRINCE OF WALES OWN REGIMENT OF YORKSHIRE". 55005 was cut up twelve months later, however, 55016 was bought as a source of spares for D9000 during October 1983 and departed Doncaster Works in July 1984. Amazingly 55016 was restored to working order and is today (01.09.01) awaiting a return to mainline working.
